Why WaveLen

We're not trying to keep you scrolling.

Most social apps make money the longer you stare at them, so that's what they're built to do. WaveLen doesn't run ads, so it doesn't need to hold your attention hostage to survive.

Chronological

Your feed, in the order things happened — the default, not a buried setting.

No ads

Free to use, and we don't sell your data or target you with advertising.

Your circle

Posts go to the people you actually chose, not the widest possible audience.

Feeds optimized for engagement aren't an accident — they're the product of an incentive. When an app is paid for by advertising, every design decision quietly bends toward "keep them here longer," because more time on-screen means more ads served. That's the mechanism behind autoplay, infinite scroll, and algorithmic feeds that reward outrage and comparison over what your friends actually posted.

WaveLen doesn't have that incentive. There's no ad business to protect, so there's no reason to build a feed that fights you for your own time.

What that looks like in practice

The attention-economy playbook

  • A ranking algorithm decides what you see, tuned to maximize time spent
  • Public counters (likes, views) turn every post into a small performance
  • Ad revenue depends on more scrolling, so friction to stop is by design
  • Your data is the product; targeting is the business model

WaveLen

  • Chronological by default — you opt in to any re-ranking, it never opts you in
  • Circles decide who sees a post, not an algorithm deciding who should
  • Free to use, no ads, nothing to sell about you
  • Stories fade in 24 hours because not everything needs to be permanent

Built independently, on purpose

WaveLen is an independent project, not a growth-hacked startup chasing a funding round. That's a real constraint — it means slower feature rollout and no marketing budget — but it also means no pressure from investors to add the engagement mechanics that make an app harder to put down. See About for more on what's behind it.
